How I Got Handsome my Dog
Share
For a while, I’d been looking for a new dog. I didn’t have a set plan or timeline—just this feeling that the right one would come along when the time was right.
Well, it turns out that time was right after a business retreat.
On the way home, I saw a Facebook ad for a site where people can list pets available for adoption. I didn’t think much of it at first, but while my dad and I were stopping for dinner before heading to our hotel (we still had a full day’s drive ahead), I decided to pull up the website just to peek.
That’s when I saw him.
Handsome. (This is his nickname as he is a service dog!)
I kept coming back to his photo, something about him tugging at my heart. The next morning, before we hit the road, my dad encouraged me to go ahead and call. So, I did. Expecting nothing, really and found out that several people were already interested in him.
But when I asked if I could meet and adopt him that evening, they said yes.
So, we took a very long detour to go meet this mystery pup, and the moment I saw him in person, I knew. He was mine. Or rather, I was his.
We adopted him, spent one more night in a hotel, and then made the long drive home, with Handsome snuggled into our little traveling pack like he’d always been there.
Now? He’s a part of the family. The sweetest companion, full of love and personality. And every time I say his name, I smile.
